Phosphoric acid was prepared first by Robert Boyle in 1694 by dissolving phosphorus pentoxide in water. Phosphoric acid is probably the most important compound of phosphorus. It is the second largest inorganic chemical by volume, after sulfuric acid, marketed in the United States.

Phosphorous acid is used for reaction with inorganic and organic products, for water treatment, industrial and agricultural uses. It is also used to bleach industrial and cleaning supplies.

Phosphorous acid is a clear colorless liquid or transparent crystalline solid. The pure solid melts at 42.35°C and has a density of 1.834 g / cm3. Liquid is usually an 85% aqueous solution. Shipped as both a solid and liquid. Corrosive to metals and tissue. Used in making fertilizers and detergents and in food processing.

Phosphorous acid include two grade: Food Grade and Tech grade.

Chemical PropertiesUnder normal temperature, phosphoric acid is a colorless transparent viscous liquid in appearance. It is a tri-basic acid with moderate acidity.

 

Applications of Phosphoric AcidFood and Tech grade

1. Industry field:

Phosphoric Acidused in removing dust from the metal surfaces.

Used as rust converter by bringing it in direct contact with a rusted iron,or steel tools and other surfaces that are rusted.

It is helpful in cleaning the mineral deposits, cement nous smears and hard water stains.

2. Food Industry:Used to acidify the foods and beverages such as colas.

3. Medicine: Phosphoric Acid is an important ingredient in over the counter medications to combat nausea.

4. Dentistry: Phosphoric Acid is mixed with zinc powder and forms zinc phosphate, and it is useful in temporary

dental cement. In orthodontics, zinc is used as an etching solution to help clean and roughen the surface of teeth.

5. Fertilizer: Used as reaction fertilizer in the soil around a granule acidification is generated that improves the

utilization of phosphorus applied and available in the rhizosphere. Due to its nitrogen content (present as ammonia), it is good for crops that require these nutrients in its initial phase
